Hugo Boss began as a small clothing company that also produced uniforms in the 1930s. After World War II, the next generation spearheaded the transformation into a jacket and suit brand. The name was first established as a brand in the 1970s, and from the 1980s onward, Hugo Boss expanded rapidly—with iconic menswear, its own fragrance lines, and its IPO in 1988. By 2000, the company had expanded into womenswear, children's collections, a wide range of accessories, and launched the creative sub-brands HUGO, BOSS Orange, and BOSS Green. In recent years, the company has refocused on BOSS and HUGO, combined with modern innovations, sustainability initiatives, and digital transformation.
